Location: Office is located in Raritan Township, NJ.

Compensation and Benefits:  A competitive starting salary ($50-55K) has been set for this position. Salary details will be discussed with applicants who are invited to interview. Health Insurance, Paid time off, 401K Plan with employer match, mileage reimbursement for program related activity.

goHunterdon is a dynamic 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to safe, sustainable transportation community mobility with an emphasis on active transportation. Our small staff works collaboratively to deliver programs and services throughout Hunterdon County, NJ engaging with municipalities, schools, non-profit partners, and local, state and regional advocates.

Position Summary

We are seeking an individual to bring energy, enthusiasm, and experience to the role of Safe Routes to School Coordinator. Safe Routes to School is a statewide program funded through the NJ Department of Transportation with two simple goals: Where is it safe, get kids walking and bicycling; where it is not safe make it safe. The Safe Routes to School Coordinator will be responsible coordinating the Hunterdon County Safe Routes to School Program, which includes the participation of approximately twenty elementary/intermediate schools within Hunterdon County.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have an interest in improving bicycle and pedestrian safety, experience working with school age children, be comfortable presenting in front of groups, and looking for hands-on work that will make a difference in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the Hunterdon County Safe Routes to School Program which includes the participation of approximately twenty elementary/intermediate schools within Hunterdon County. Potential to expand programming to high school level.
  • Maintain established relationship at participating schools.
  • Cultivate new relationships to expand programming reach.
  • Develop and deliver in person lessons, presentations, activities, and events to engage students in pedestrian and bicycling safety education and encouragement~ walk to school events, safety audits, bicycle skills drills, helmet fittings.
  • Support the development of School Travel Plans including facilitation of school committees, fieldwork, and assist with implementation efforts.
  • Participate in statewide Safe Routes to School coordination meetings and similar task forces, committees to represent Hunterdon County perspective.
  • Maintain records of school activity and provide documentation in support of grant applications or
    recognition under the New Jersey Safe Routes to School Recognition Program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working with children in grades K-12.
  • Ability to provide present in front of large groups of students in the school environment, engage with school staff, community members and facilitate program events.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for improving the health and well-being of children.
  • Bicycling skills. Reliable, well maintained bicycle and helmet; willingness to use personal bicycle and helmet for program activity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Suite.
  • Ability to prepare written narrative reports.
  • Familiarity with Hunterdon County, NJ a plus

Minimum Professional Qualifications

  • Three to five years of direct work experience in a relevant field.
  • A., B.A. or B.S. from accredited college or university with a relevant degree preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willingness to drive within Hunterdon County
  • Ability and willingness to lift 25 lbs. (to transport equipment, event materials, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to walk and bicycle up to 2 miles
