Employment Status: Part time- approximately 20 hours/week, with the potential to transition to full time

Work Schedule and Environment: Monday- Friday. Occasional early morning required. Flexible Work Schedule, Collaborative Work Environment

Location: Office is located in Raritan Township, NJ.

Compensation and Benefits: $20-22/hour Paid sick time, mileage reimbursement.

Position Summary

Safe Routes to School is a statewide program funded through the NJ Department of Transportation with two simple goals: Where is it safe, get kids walking and bicycling; where it is not safe make it safe.  The Safe Routes to School Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Hunterdon County Safe Routes to School Program, which includes the participation of approximately twenty elementary/intermediate schools within Hunterdon County.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain established relationships at participating schools.
  • Cultivate new relationships to expand programming reach.
  • Develop and deliver lessons, presentations, activities, and events to engage students in pedestrian and bicycling safety education and encouragement including walk to school events, interactive pedestrian safety presentations, bicycle skills drill activities/bicycle “rodeos”, and helmet fittings.
  • Coordinate seasonal events and countywide competitions at participating schools, including International Walk to School Day, Hunterdon County “Winter Walk”, Hunterdon County Walk & Bike to School Month, Year End Celebrations and Summer Camp Reinforcement programming.
  • Participate in statewide Safe Routes to School coordination meetings and similar task forces, committees to represent Hunterdon County perspective.
  • Maintain records of school activity and provide documentation in support of grant applications or recognition under the New Jersey Safe Routes to School Recognition Program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working with children in grades K-12.
  • Interest and demonstrated ability to create interactive lessons and programs to keep students and schools engaged.
  • Interest and demonstrated ability to speak before students in a classroom, assembly or outdoor setting
  • Competency with Microsoft Programs and Google Suite.
  • Ability to prepare written narrative reports.
  • Recreational bicycling ability
  • Familiarity with Hunterdon County, NJ a plus

Minimum Professional Qualifications

  • At least three to five years of direct work experience in a relevant field.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willingness to drive within Hunterdon County
  • Ability and willingness to lift 25 lbs. (to transport equipment, event materials, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to walk and bicycle up to 2 miles
  • Reliable home internet connection
